AS WEEK 7 STARTS.....

AS WEEK 7 STARTS.....

I'm looking out of the office window at the sea (again!) and contemplating life. I can't believe that we have been in Lockdown for 6 weeks now and, even though there are more discussions, life doesn't appear to be returning to normal anytime soon.

The cottages are empty and all bookings are postponed/rescheduled until at least the beginning of June. A must offer my humble thanks to all our guests who have been very understanding and more than happy to preserve their stays in Staithes for a later date. I really do have everything crossed some element of travel will be allowed very soon not withstanding that the health of the full time residents must also be protected.

So, what have I being during these strange times? Kevin and I have a walk every evening and it has been great to explore all the pathways within a few miles of our home here in Whitby. Being ever the fitness enthusiast Kevin was thrilled to report that we had walked 82 miles in April and all of these miles have been started and finished from our front door. We have fabulous coastal and country scenery to enjoy and I have loved capturing and sharing numerous videos and photos with our Instagram and Facebook followers (@stayinstaithes if you would also want to like, share and follow us!)

On the whole we have been blessed with amazing weather (even better if our Stay in Staithes guests had been able to share it with us!) and there has been a lot of work going on in our garden here in Whitby. I would like to claim credit for "art direction and management" but all the credit for the hard work must go to Kevin. The garden won a gold award and best in category in last year's Whitby in Bloom competition and is in the 2020 "Champion of Champions" category. This year has delivered an extension to the deck and new water feature - Kevin now has endless time to make sure that continual improvements are made, so lets keep fingers crossed that this year's competition is able to go ahead.

As you can imagine it has been very quiet on the cottage front. We have been checking all the cottages on a weekly basis and I am pleased to report that they are all still there and waiting for guests return. We always make annual improvements and repairs, but have been planning some additional ones to do over the next month or so in anticipation of bookings starting once again. I will be sharing news and photos on our social media pages, so please do keep in touch with us via the blog, Facebook and Instagram pages. Alternatively you can sign up for our newsletter to receive our updates straight to your inbox.

In the meantime we wish you and your families/loved ones all the best - Stay Safe, Stay Well, Stay Home!
